Amy Purdy Injured on Dancing with the Stars, Gives Updates from Hospital After Suffering Back Problems

Dancing with the Stars took a turn for the dramatic on Monday, April 28, when one of the most celebrated contestants was injured during the show. Paralympian snowboarder Amy Purdy, who is one of the frontrunners for the ABC dance competition, was rushed to the hospital after suffering from back problems.

"Right after judging, I turned my head and my back cracked and it just seized up," Purdy, 34, told Erin Andrews in a backstage interview. "Everything's really painful right now. It's hard to breathe."

The athlete, who also participated in The Amazing Race in 2012, missed the team dance later in the program to receive treatment—a choice she deeply regretted. "We have our team dance and I feel so bad because I love our dance," she said. "We all had so much fun putting it together and we were killing it together."

Purdy, who dances with DWTS heavyweight Derek Hough, took to Twitter from her hospital bed to thank fans for their support and give updates on her condition.

"Thanks for your support everyone!" she wrote. "The [doctor] thinks it's muscular, still waiting on the official word… As we walked away from the judging table my upper back cracked and went into spasms… in pain but I'm in good hands."

Hough reportedly went to the hospital to be with his dancing partner, who said she doesn't know yet whether she will be able to compete next week.
"Fingers crossed," she added.
"We'll know soon enough."by nevel
