Diamonds are Katy Perry's best friend. The 29-year-old singer caused quite the commotion when she stepped out on the MTV EMAs red carpet in Amsterdam Sunday, Nov. 11, wearing a diamond ring on a very important finger. But multiple sources tell Us Weekly that the piece of jewelry in question is not, in fact, an engagement ring.
"She's not engaged," the insider tells Us of John Mayer's girlfriend. "It was just a ring that went with the outfit." Perry's rep doesn't comment on the singer's personal life.
The "Unconditionally" singer looked gorgeous walking the carpet at the Ziggo Dome on Sunday. The pretty ring Perry wore did pair well with her mint green Zac Posen dress, light pink Charlotte Olympia shoes and sparkly Dolce & Gabbana headband. (Perry didn't wear the ring with her performance ensemble and black after party dress.)
At the awards show, Us Weekly asked the pop star if her relationship with Mayer, 36, works so well because they get to travel together a lot. "I think so! But, John's away at the moment so he couldn't be here," she shared. "He has an event."
Although Perry and Mayer are not engaged just yet, sources told Us last month that the couple is on that track. "Everyone knows it's just a question of when John will propose," a source told Us of the "Paper Doll" singer.
Perry and Mayer have been dating for 16 months (with a three-month break earlier this year), and an insider said they are fully committed to each other. They "realize they must be together," the pal said.
