Single and ready to mingle? Not quite. After calling off her engagement to Liam Hemsworth in September after three years of dating, Miley Cyrus says she's wants to be alone right now. During an appearance on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, Oct. 11, the 20-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer opened up to host Ellen DeGeneres about her split from The Hunger Games actor."The last time you were here, I threw you an engagement party," DeGeneres recalled.
"Do you want your money back?" Cyrus joked about the host surprising her with male strippers on the show. "I should have kept one of those dude's numbers. That would have come in handy right now."
"Is that an awkward thing that all this attention is going on and you aren't with him anymore?" DeGeneres asked.
"It's not really as awkward because I'm living it. I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do," Cyrus said. "I just believe that when a chapter is done, you have to close it and start that new one. That's kind of where I am right now. I felt like I have so much to be thankful for at this time that my energy hasn't really been focused on that.
The former Disney star said she wants her fans to focus on her music, rather than her love life. But she shared that her new album, Bangerz, is a story about her relationship with Hemsworth, 23. "I didn't really know . . . until I listened to it now that it's done . . . this really is telling a story," she explained. "I think I knew more intuitively where my life was going, than I actually thought I did at the time."
"Are you friendly?" DeGeneres asked about the exes. "Do you speak?"
"I haven't really gotten to see anyone right now because I've been so crazy busy. I'm just letting that chapter kind of close, and just looking forward to that new one," Cyrus said. "I want to be really clear and determined with everything that I'm doing in my life right now, and I have been. I keep saying I'm the happiest I've ever been and that's not even a dig, that's just me because I really am genuinely happy finally with myself. I think sometimes it takes you separating yourself from someone else to really be happy with who you are. I've never been able to just be alone -- and I'm obsessed with being alone and hearing my thoughts."
The talk show host also asked Cyrus about her highly-controversial performance with Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV VMAs. Cyrus said the "Blurred Lines" singer, 36, was an equal participant. "No one cares about the man behind the booty. They only care about the one that's shaking it. It's a double standard," she said of being criticized for being overly sexual. "He was in rehearsal as much as I was -- and loving it, people."
The "We Can't Stop" singer also said she doesn't understand why everyone was shocked by the act. "I know that sounds crazy, but I can't really understand it," she said. "I don't see anything more than what any other real artist did that night. I mean Gaga was in a thong, but no one cared."
"I don't know why they were shocked. I had clothes on!" Cyrus argued. "I tried to get away with [going naked], but MTV threatened to dead-air me. So I couldn't come out in the full birthday suit; I had to put something on. So, of course, nude latex always works." By Nevel
